The Red Radish (Raphanus sativus), a member of the Cruciferae family, is cultivated for its edible roots.
This fast-growing crop allows you to harvest well-formed radishes every 30 days.
They come in various shapes - rounded, medium-long, and long - and colors - white, red, pink with white tips, among others.
There are two subspecies: sativus (the standard radish) and longipinnatus (the Japanese daikon radish).
Splendid in salads, the radish is not just colorful but also boasts a characteristic taste.
- As a rapidly growing species, the sowing phase is delicate.
- Use a variety suited to the sowing season: most varieties are recommended during Fall and Spring, while Winter requires alternative varieties for shorter days.
- Choose a light, fertile soil texture and a suitable location corresponding to the season.
- Sow seeds one by one in lines, as it facilitates uniform growth and robust root formation.
- Ensure an appropriate planting depth for optimal growth: 0.5-1 cm for round varieties and 2-3 cm for medium-long ones.
- Water frequently while avoiding waterlogging, as the radish requires constant moisture.
- Harvest at the right moment, preferably before they reach full maturity for better quality.
